R-428A is a near azeotropic, zero ozone depleting HFC and HC refrigerant gas mixture used as a direct (drop-in) substitute for R-502 and its HCFC substitutes such as R-408A, DI-44, HP80, in a wide variety of medium and low temperature refrigeration applications.
– No harm to the ozone layer, ODP = 0.
– It requires the replacement of mineral or alkylbenzene oil with POE synthetic oil.
– They allow the maintenance of existing equipment.
– In case of leakage, empty and carry out a new full charge.
– Lower discharge temperatures than R-22, which extends the life of the compressor.
– It achieves similar cooling capacity and energy efficiency to R-22 in most systems.

When R-22 was banned in new equipment, equipment manufacturers took advantage in many cases of the same production lines of R-22 air conditioning equipment to continue manufacturing them for R-407C but this time with synthetic POE oil instead of mineral oil. Not recommended for flooded evaporators or centrifugal compressors.
