R-442A is a non-azeotropic HFC refrigerant gas mixture, with zero ozone depletion, low global warming potential and high energy efficiency, used in new medium and low temperature refrigeration equipment. It is also a direct substitute (drop-in) for R-404A and R-507 and an indirect substitute (retrofit) for R-502 and its HCFC substitutes such as R-22, R-408A, DI-44, HP80.

R-442A (RS-50) is the evolution of high-safety refrigerants (A1) of the HFC group, with low greenhouse impact and high energy savings for refrigeration. Studies conducted by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia have shown that R-442A is the refrigerant that provides more cooling capacity and coefficient of performance compared to R-404A, R-507, R-407A, R-407F and R-22 in both medium and low evaporation temperatures. A large decrease in the time required to reach the desired temperature was also observed. The special additives in R-442A greatly improve the return of POE oil to the compressor. Changes from R-502, R-408A, DI44 or R-22 to R-442A will be very similar to those made with R-404A. To change an installation from R-404A or R-507 to R-442A it will be practically only necessary to close the expansion valve slightly. In the case of being used as a retrofit of R-22, it will also be necessary to change the safety valves and other elements that were set to R-22 pressures.

With this refrigerant we manage to greatly reduce the TEWI, which is the sum of direct CO2 emissions caused in the event of a refrigerant leak plus the indirect emissions produced by the electrical consumption of the equipment with that refrigerant. Many installation companies used to recommend R-404A or R-507 for installations with high temperatures despite the fact that these products are less efficient than R-134a, since using R-134a requires a larger compressor, thus increasing the cost of the budget. With R-442A you do not need a larger compressor but you gain a lot of energy efficiency.

NOTES:

– Compatible with POE synthetic oils.

– Equipment can be refilled in case of leakage.

– Lower discharge temperatures than R-22.

– Cooling capacity and energy efficiency superior to R-502, R-22, R-404A, R-507, R-407A and R-407F.

– Pressures similar to R-404A.

– Global Warming Potential (GWP): 1888

– Boiling point at 1.013 bar (ºC): -46.5

– Temperature glide or glide (ºC): 4.6

– Saturated vapor density at 25ºC (kg/m3): 47.7

– UN NO.: 1078

– Safety classification: A1. Low toxicity and non-flammable.

– Always load in liquid phase.
