R-407A is a non-azeotropic, zero ozone depleting, low global warming potential HFC refrigerant gas mixture used in new equipment operating at medium and low temperatures. It is also an indirect substitute (retrofit) for R-502 and its HCFC substitutes such as R-22, R-408A, DI-44, HP80.
R-407A was developed at the same time as R-507 and R-404A to replace R-502 in new medium and low temperature installations. At that time, the choice in Europe was to use acetotropic cooling gases; neither global warming potential (GWP) nor energy efficiency were taken into account. Actually, at low temperature, R-407A is closer in cooling capacity to R-22 than to R-502, R-507 or R-404A. To convert an installation from R-22 to R-407A it will be necessary to change the original mineral oil for POE oil, change the filter drier, the safety valves and other elements that were set to R-22 pressures. As with any change from HCFC to HFC, it is recommended that rubber O-rings be replaced with plastic O-rings.
Applications:
– Water chillers.
– Refrigerated warehouses.
– Refrigerated showcases.
– Ice cream machines.
– Ice rinks.
– Cold storage rooms.
– Refrigerated transport.
– Cold beverage dispenser.
– No harm to the ozone layer, ODP = 0.
– Only compatible with POE synthetic oils.
– Equipment can be refilled in case of leakage.
– Lower discharge temperatures than R-22.
– Slightly lower cooling capacity and similar energy efficiency to R-22.
– Cooling capacity and energy efficiency inferior to R-442A and R-407F.
– Pressures similar to R-404A.
– Global Warming Potential (GWP): 2107
– Boiling point at 1.013 bar (ºC): -40.8
– Temperature glide or glide (ºC): 4.2
– Saturated vapor density at 25ºC (kg/m3): 49.74
– UN NO.: 3338
– Safety classification: A1. Low toxicity and non-flammable.
– Always load in liquid phase.
